God is Great! Well guys, I am not too sure all of you will see this today because of the storm, but I do pray that you are all safe and warm. Stay close to our Lord and pray for the safety of others and pray that if the power goes out again, there will be people able to help in the time of need for those in trouble.
I was talking to Andrew and he has sent me these passages to finish off our discussions on the qualities from 2 Peter 1 that we have been talking about the past few weeks. This is good stuff and I so wish we had more time on lunch break to really dig into this. But it is so nice to be able to gather and pray; so on that note, let’s move right into it and I hope to see you all Thursday … God Bless!
For this week, let’s focus on 2 Peter 1: 8-11 “For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins. 10 Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. 11 For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
What does it mean to forget that we were cleansed from former sins? Do we actually forget, like “Oh yeah that totally slipped my mind?” No, he’s saying that if we live in sin, we are acting as though it never happened, as though it didn’t matter, it didn’t mean anything to us. Our heart has forgotten the significance of being cleansed; forgotten what it felt like to be unburdened of that terrible weight of guilt and anxiety. We’re ungrateful.
So, as an accompanying passage, perhaps Romans 12: “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
Therefore: because of what? Because of the Gospel that Paul proclaims in Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins.
6:23 for the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
8:1 there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.
My dear and Holy Father, please help my mind remember everyday what Jesus has done for me on the cross and the forgiveness you have given me from my sins. Help me to also forgive others as in Matthew; “But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” Oh Lord my God, keep me forever in your grace and keep your Holy hand upon me to show the qualities of your love, in Jesus’ name Amen!
Have a Great Day!
Keep your head up! GOD gives his hardest battles to his strongest SOLDIERS…
So as we go through our day let us go out to help and to care for all that need it, in Jesus’ name…Amen!
