Could he have been one of those who came to take Jesus away, believing that “He is out of his mind” (Mark 3:21)? Did James hear Jesus ask, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” and interpret it as a rebuke, leading him to distance himself from Jesus and the profound truths He shared? Or perhaps he observed Jesus pointing to His disciples and declaring, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother” (Matthew 12:48-50). The power inherent in the name of Jesus is undeniable. Even seemingly insignificant encounters can be transformative. When individuals meet Jesus and recognize His offer of salvation, their lives are often forever changed. Following Jesus involves a shift in perspective—He awakens believers to a new understanding of the world and guides them toward His kingdom. Jesus did not promise a life of ease or luxury; rather, He assured His followers of His presence during life’s challenges. His promise was to be with them through difficult times, providing comfort and strength. More importantly, Jesus calls His followers to live fully by embracing love, compassion, and a desire to impact the world positively, especially for those in need.
As believers, we are encouraged to pray for our families, neighbours, and colleagues, asking that they encounter Jesus personally. We trust that Jesus initiates life-changing transformations in those who seek Him. Our prayers should include asking for opportunities—simple conversations with Jesus—where He can speak truth into their lives. Additionally, we should pray that we ourselves remain open to participating in these conversations, allowing ourselves to be continually transformed by His presence and truth.
